On 7th August we welcomed our Guest Speaker PDG Euan Miller and visiting student from the Philippines, Eula Mae Gonzales.   Also,  we welcomed  Bright Evbuonwan, our regular visitor.

PDG Euan Miller’s topic  was “Attracting Younger Members to Rotary.”

Euan spoke to us of the procedures and activities the Rotary Club of Norwood took to attract new, younger members.

As their first step the club took was to survey younger people in their district to find what they did not like about Rotary. Once this was done the club then looked at strategies to attract members.  All the club members filled in a health check of the club.  A Strategic Plan for the next few years was formed and changes to the culture of the club were made.

Most of the younger members wanted more action and less time spent in meetings. They want less time spent on speakers and more Rotary information passed on.

The efforts made by the Rotary Club of Norwood have been very successful with an increase in membership and the age of the members has reduced. In fact they now have difficulty filling weekday rosters at Bunnings as most of their members are still working full time.

Our club is in the similar situation as Norwood was a couple of years ago. His talk has given our club some ideas about how to plan, attract  and retain more members  so that the club can look  forward to the future with more confidence.
